A Historic Space. A Family Legacy.

A Place to Celebrate.

Our Story

The Building

The Thaxton is located in the historic Eastman Kodak Building, constructed in 1927 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Originally designed as a prototype for a national chain of Kodak retail stores, only five buildings were completed before the Great Depression halted the project. Today, the St. Louis location remains the only surviving example—a rare architectural piece of history preserved in the city’s landscape.

In 2002, my father, Mark Thaxton Pitliangas, began the careful restoration of the building. Acting as both visionary and craftsman, he personally completed much of the work that defines the space today. His handcrafted stonework, detailed tile installations, and carved glass features remain permanent elements of the venue and reflect a deep commitment to preserving the building’s historic character.

The Family

For nearly two decades, The Thaxton has been a family-owned and operated small business dedicated to creating intimate, thoughtfully curated event experiences in the heart of downtown St. Louis. Since opening in 2007, The Thaxton has built a trusted reputation for exceptional hospitality, consistently high reviews, and a distinctive atmosphere that attracts clients seeking a unique alternative to traditional venues.

I operate two concepts within the building: The Thaxton, a boutique event venue specializing in private events, and Thaxton Speakeasy, a hidden cocktail lounge located in the building's lower level. Together, they create a distinctive setting where guests gather to celebrate and experience the character and charm of this historic space.

The Thaxton is deeply personal to our family. My father restored the building; I built a business within it; and, fittingly, my own daughter carries the name, Thaxton. What began as a restoration project has evolved into a place where memorable events and evenings continue to unfold.

It has been an absolute pleasure to share this space with so many diverse guests. It remains an honor, every single time.
